Bodycam footage shows the moment a mum accused of murdering her son first answered questions from officers.

Police arrived at the property on Bracken Court in Ushaw Moor, County Durham, and went to speak to Christina Robinson while paramedics worked trying to save her three-year-old Dwelaniyah.

Robinson, 30, is on trial at Newcastle Crown Court, charged with murder and a second charge of child neglect.

She denies both charges

Last week jurors watched footage captured on a police bodycam when officers arrived at the property on November 5, 2022, after Robinson had called 999 saying her son wasn't breathing.

A part of that footage has since been released by police.

The camera was worn by PC Emma Watson and shows Robinson emerging from the door of a bedroom to speak to the officer.

In it, PC Watson can be heard asking Robinson for the first what had happened.

The mum replies: “We were just downstairs, he was eating his food, and then all of a sudden there was sort of like (sic) spluttering sounds and then he sort of just like went limp and I didn’t know what was going on.

“I just thought he was messing around because he doesn’t chew his food very well, so I didn’t really notice straight away. When I saw that he went a bit limp that’s when I thought ‘ok, let me rush him upstairs’ and then try CPR.”

The prosecution allege she inflicted a fatal head injury on the day of his death and had previously beat him and caused him serious burns by immersing him in scalding water.
