A firearm was recovered from a North East business park after crime scene investigators and police were seen at the industrial estate this morning. 

Numerous police vehicles and a crime scene investigator van were seen on Newport South Business Park in Middlesbrough at about 7.50am on Tuesday (February 20) following reports of an 'incident'.

For the majority of the morning, a police presence was seen in the business park, with crime scene officers with hazmat suits on also seen. 

Following the large emergency service response - Cleveland Police have now confirmed the details of the incident. 

The police force has said that a fireman was found at Newport South Business Park and that it has been forensically recovered.

An investigation was launched - with police currently looking into the factors surrounding the firearm. 

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Police received a call this morning, Tuesday 20th February, around 7.50am after a firearm was reported to have been found in a premises on Newport South Business Park in Middlesbrough.

"Officers attended to make the weapon safe and it has now been forensically recovered."
