A County Durham train company has launched a 'day excursion' journey for the first time in five years - and will take rail passengers to a UK destination later this year.

Following the fond farewell from regular passenger service of the legendary InterCity 125 train from the North-East and Yorkshire, Bishop Trains has announced the revival of its train for a series of special day excursions.

The inaugural journey launches on Saturday, August 3, 2024, offering passengers an unforgettable trip to the historic city of Chester.

Calling at Newcastle, Chester-le-Street, Durham, Darlington, Northallerton and York stations, the train will embark on a scenic route, passing through Sheffield and traversing the picturesque Hope Valley Line.

Upon arrival in Chester, travellers will have about five hours to explore the city’s rich heritage before the return journey, which will showcase the Mid-Cheshire Line.

Both first and standard-class seats are available, with ticket prices starting at just £65.

A free connecting coach will operate from Bishop Auckland to Darlington during the day.

Tickets for the experience have been in high demand since their release.

As an added thrill, passengers will have the opportunity to drive a 125 train using a specially designed simulator onboard.

For a donation of £10 in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust, passengers can book a 20-minute slot to experience the thrill of being at the controls of this legendary locomotive.

People can book their tickets here.
