Potholes can be a massive concern for drivers and pedestrians - especially in the dark when you're driving on your own.

The massive bumps in the road that can sometimes measure up to 10ft across can cause severe damage to car tyres, the suspension, as well as pedestrians if they trip on them.

This is no different in Darlington and County Durham - which has its fair share of potholes.

On Fix My Street, an online site, which sees people complain about issues in their area, The Northern Echo has been on the lookout for the worst potholes.

According to people on Fix My Street, these are the worst five in the whole of County Durham and Darlington:

Middleton Road, Sadberge

The Northern Echo:

This pothole has caused damage to this motorist's vehicle. Posting to Fix My Street, this angered driver said: "The pothole was full of water, which I went in, causing my tyre to pop, so, unfortunately, I need a new tyre. Looking closer it has white marks around it. I went back and placed a cone in the pothole to prevent further problems."

Milbank Road, Darlington

The Northern Echo:

This person's complaint stems back a while - with the complainant saying that it has been this way for 'some years'. They also noted how dangerous it was for bikes, as well as cars.

The person on Fix My Street said: "This road surface has been defective for multiple years and is treacherous on a road bike."

Middleton Lane, Middleton St George

The Northern Echo:

Another pothole that has allegedly been there 'for some time'. The pothole, which is on the edge of the road, looks like it has two white lines around to make people aware, but this person complaining about it simply said: "Been there for an extended period."

Sycamore Gardens, Crook

The Northern Echo:

This pothole has caused damage to a person's car after getting "considerably" worse. According to the complainant - the hole is about six inches deep and on the top of a speed bump.
