The owner of a coffee shop has announced its closure with a 'heavy heart' after revealing that the venue will close down later this month.

On Monday (February 12), the owner of The Scene, on Myton Road, Ingleby Barwick, issued an update about the future of the business - after saying that it will close its doors on Sunday, February 25.

Telling people the news, the owner cited wanting to pursue other things in future - while revealing that some of the staff will be staying on when the venue reopens under new ownership.

In a statement online, the owner said: "It's been a hard decision to make, but three years on I need to focus on my next step, which many will know I'm in my final year doing my PhD in hospitality.

"It's a lot of work to complete my publications, so the decision was to sell up. It will reopen with a new owner who will let you know this shortly."

The statement went on to say that the customers have been 'invaluable over the years', with the statement adding: "Myself and the staff ( the few who are staying) want to take this opportunity to personally thank you.

"It's been our pleasure to see you daily, host your parties, see all the babies grow from the baby showers we have hosted, all the cooking and painting classes. Plus so much more.

"It will be sad but will be nice to see many of you before we leave. From the bottom of my heart, it was my absolute privilege & pleasure to bring The Scene Cafe to Ingleby Barwick."
