Police investigating a 'hit and run' murder investigation have issued an update after two men arrested in connection with the incident have now been charged. 

Emergency services were called to Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, just before 11.35pm when a white Citroen Berlingo van appears to have been intentionally driven towards a group of people on a footpath.

The driver left the scene, Myton Way at the junction with The Rings, prior to the arrival of police and the van which officers believe was used in the incident was abandoned nearby.

Two men, aged 29 and 66, both from Ingleby Barwick, were arrested in connection with the incident - but Cleveland Police confirmed on Monday (February 12) that the men have now been charged.

Both men have been charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The 29-year-old man was also charged with perverting the course of justice.

Both men are due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning (February 12).

Senior Investigating Officer Temp Detective Chief Inspector Mathew Hollingsworth said: “We would like to thank residents for their patience and co-operation while numerous officers remain in the area conducting enquiries, and would again appeal for anyone with information, doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage who has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.
