Ingleby Barwick residents have reacted with horror this morning as a murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 60-year-old.

The incident happened last night at 11.30pm. Some residents heard bangs and screams in the area.

Crime Scene Investigators were at the scene this morning inspecting Myton Way where there had been a hit and run and a murder investigation was promptly launched.

The police released an appeal this morning for any information or witnesses to the incident.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I just heard bangs and then screaming.

"We looked out of the window and there were people running around the road.

"Me and my husband called the police."

Another resident who lived near the road also heard a loud bang.

They said: "All I heard was a loud bang.

"There was a lot of cars and bikes but I couldn’t get a proper look."

Many of the people in the area were asleep when it happened but described waking up later in the night to emergency services swarming the scene.

One said: "We woke up at 4am because of all of the blue lights. 

"There have been tonnes of police everywhere. Nobody really knows what has happened."

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We woke up this morning and everything is cordoned off.

"We just walked to the Rings and it’s blocked off up there too.

"There’s so much going on this week. It’s such a shame. I hope they sort it out."

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Myton Way, Ingleby Barwick, at around 11.35pm on Friday evening (9th February) following a fail to stop collision.

"A 60-year-old man sadly passed away at the scene. Our thoughts remain with his family at this extremely difficult time and our specially trained officers will be offering support to them.

"Two other people were also seriously injured during the incident and were taken to hospital.

"Myton Way remains closed at this time from the Rings up to Queen Elizabeth Way whilst officers continue to investigate the incident and enquiries are currently ongoing.

"Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who may have seen a white van travelling in the area at the time to get in touch. Anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam is also urged to make contact.
