Seven drivers have faced court during February for offences, including speeding, having no insurance and using a mobile phone while driving. 

The motorists all appeared in Teesside Magistrates' Court in February - and have either been fined, banned or given penalty points on their licence.

A disgraced Stockton motorist has been slapped with another driving ban after flouting the law just five months into his disqualification.

Michael Cuthbert, 38, from Ragpath Lane, Stockton, was handed an eight-week suspended sentence and a 22-month driving ban after admitting to driving while already disqualified.

The offence took place on November 28 in Whitby.

Cuthbert also failed to stop his vehicle when requested by police on the same day, which resulted in an £80 fine.

On July 21, 2023, he neglected to surrender to Middlesbrough Magistrates' Court, receiving an additional one-week suspended sentence.

The court factored Cuthbert's guilty plea into the sentencing and ordered him to undertake 140 hours of supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months.

A Stockton-on-Tees woman has been fined for driving her car without insurance on Haverton Hill Road, Billingham.

Shona Patterson, 41, from Rotherham Avenue, Stockton, was found guilty in her absence and fined £440.

Also known as Shona Harris, Patterson was under suspicion after she used her vehicle, a Ford when no insurance policy was in effect for that use.

The offence took place on April 24, 2023.

On top of the hefty fine, Patterson is also required to pay a victim services surcharge of £176 and costs of £300 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

In addition to the financial penalty, Patterson's driving record has been endorsed with eight penalty points.

A man has been slapped with a £660 fine for failing to identify the driver of a speeding vehicle.

41-year-old Jamie Harris of Kirkstone Place, Newton Aycliffe, was found guilty in his absence at Teesside Magistrates' Court.

He had been required by the Police in Hartlepool to identify the driver of a car alleged to have been speeding but failed to do so.

Alongside the fine, Harris was also ordered to pay a £264 victim service surcharge and costs of £85. 

Harris' driving licence was disqualified for six months and was endorsed with six penalty points due to repeated offences.

A Hartlepool woman has been ordered to pay fines after driving over the local speed limit.

Suzanna Mason, 43, of Glamis Walk, breached traffic regulations by driving her Land Rover at speeds over 40 mph on Easington Road.

Mason admitted to the offence, which occurred on May 12, 2023. 

Mason's case was heard at Teesside Magistrates' Court on February 1, 2024.

The court administered a fine of £40 and ordered her to pay a surcharge of £16 to fund victims' services, along with an additional £85 in costs.

A collection order for Mason's £141 total payment was put into effect.

In recognition of her guilty plea, the court only endorsed her driving record with three penalty points.

A Sunderland man was fined for using his mobile while driving along the A19.

David Torkington, 47, of Southwick, was found guilty on March 27, 2023, of using a handheld mobile device while driving a vehicle on the A19 in Stockton-on-Tees.

The guilty plea was entered at Teesside Magistrates' Court.

Torkington was fined £146 and ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £58 and court costs of £85, to be paid by February 29, 2024. 

Furthermore, due to repeat offending, Torkington was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months, with his driving record endorsed with six penalty points.

A teen has been heavily fined after she drove uninsured on a Middlesbrough road, her repeat offending leading to a six-month disqualification.

Middlesbrough resident Tyler Usher, 19, of Wilson Place, was brought before Teesside Magistrates' Court following an incident on May 9, 2023, when Usher was caught driving her Mercedes uninsured on Park Avenue North.

Usher's licence was endorsed with six penalty points.

A collection order for the £348 fine was imposed, in addition to a victim surcharge of £139 and costs of £85, amounting to £572 in total.

Usher's guilty plea was acknowledged by the court, but due to her repeated offending, she has been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months.

A Bishop Auckland woman has been fined for using a mobile phone while driving.

Amy Ann Thompson, 26, of Canny Hill, was found guilty of the offence, which occurred on April 27, 2023.

She was caught driving her Audi and using her mobile on Burn Road, Hartlepool.

Thompson appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on February 1 and was fined £80.

She was further ordered to pay a surcharge of £32 and £85 costs.

Thompson's driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.
