A man has pleaded guilty to a brazen theft of an off-road bike from a County Durham police station.

Sean Atkins, 24, of H M Prison, Holme House, Stockton-on-Tees, was slapped with an unusual punishment following his burglary from Crook Police Station.

According to the court notes from the Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on February 7, the young burglar stole an off-road bike and pedal cycle from the station on July 2, 2023.

According to court documents, Atkins stole the vehicles from the yard and garage of the County Durham police station. 

In court, Atkins admitted his guilt to the burglary and was given a conditional discharge for 24 months.

His guilty plea was factored in when deciding the leniency of his sentence.

In addition to the discharge, the court ordered Atkins to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
