A 'shed' load of debris and rubble closed the A1 for hours this week, as teams had to clean up.

Police are appealing for information after a shed load caused closures on the A1(M) though Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon (January 30).

Shortly before 2.25pm on Tuesday, police were alerted to significant debris and rubble on the A1 northbound, just past the A167 Ponteland Road exit.

It was reported that a white Ford Transit 350 van had been travelling on the road towing a silver trailer when, for reasons yet to be established, the trailer gave way on the road and collided with the central reservation.

Thankfully nobody was injured, and officers attended the scene with National Highways. However, a handful of passing motorists reported damage to their vehicles.

The driver of the van was located at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Lane closures were in place on the main road for almost three hours to allow for the debris to be cleared, and the trailer to be recovered.
