Police are trying to trace a woman who was reportedly chased by a man in a North East residential street - to see that she is safe. 

Officers were alerted after concern was raised for the welfare of a woman following incident in Harrowgate Lane, Stockton, yesterday (Wednesday, January 31).

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "On Wednesday January 31, police received a report of a woman reportedly being chased by a male on Harrowgate Lane, Stockton, at around 5.10pm.

"Officers attended the area but woman could not be found, however, officers would like to trace her as a matter of urgency to check on her welfare and ensure she is safe and well."

She is described as being of Asian appearance, with long, curly hair, around 16-17 years old and dressed in a purple puffer jacket and carrying a shoulder bag.

The male is described as a white male, aged in his late teens or early twenties and “scruffy” looking, with stubble and wearing black jogging bottoms.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the woman or man described, is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 18293.
