A woman has described the terrifying moment a car hurtled off a road and landed on the roof of her garage this morning.

Silver Lighowler of Station Cottages, in Norton, Stockton, was in her kitchen when she saw wood flying past her window and heard a crash, at about 10am this morning (January 27).

She came out to see four men getting out of a car on her garage roof, arguing among themselves and someone on nearby Junction Road, before they left the scene.

She called the police prompting a huge emergency response, including the ambulance service, Cleveland Fire Brigade and several police vehicles.

Ms Lightowler said to The Northern Echo: "I was in my kitchen and I saw some wood fly past the window and I heard a bang.

"I did actually think there had been a crash at the top, because it sometimes does happen.

"When I came out there was a car on the roof of my garage. Four men got out of it and they were all screaming and shouting among each other and threatening somebody who was on the main road. So then I phoned the police."

She added: "I am still in shock. Nobody was injured. I don’t know how they got out of it alive to be fair, because I think they must have flipped the car."

The Northern Echo:

"I think they were so wound up about the situation, because they said they had been run off the road – that someone else had tried to run them off the road.

"They were screaming and shouting and threatening each other outside my house."

Ms Lightowler said the man claimed they had been rammed off the road. The crash caused substantial damage to a car parked in the driveway.

She said: "I’m not happy. It’s not how I thought our Saturday would go."
