If you’re looking for a new “exciting” place to stay in Northumberland this year, then look no further as an “elegant” hotel is set to open this summer.

Bailiffgate Hotel next to Alnwick Castle will be opening its doors in August and has been featured by inews as one of the UK’s “most exciting new hotels for 2024 with rooms from £88”.

The publisher said: “From countryside inns to dynamic city boltholes, these new places to stay are reason enough to start planning a UK break this year.”

Why is Bailiffgate Hotel in Alnwick one of the UK’s most exciting new hotels?

inews explained: “A former girls’ school next to Hogwarts (aka Alnwick Castle) is being transformed in to an elegant, 48-room hotel that will be a good base for the magnificent Northumberland coast and whimsical Alnwick Garden.

“Period features are being retained while the interiors are spruced up, and there will be a relaxed restaurant, bar, gardens and accessible rooms.”

Double rooms from £157 can be booked here.

North York Moors hotel near Whitby opening this spring

Elsewhere, The Falcon Inn located on the edge of the North York Moors has also been named in the highly-praised list, set to open in March.

“On the edge of the North York Moors and within easy reach of the popular coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, this ‘gastro inn’ and glamping site is being refurbished to reopen in the spring,” commented inews.

“There will be decorative wallpapers and cottage-style décor in the comfortable rooms, and timber pods in the gardens, which look out on to the national park.”

If you fancy travelling further away from the North East within a few hour's drive, The Brackenrigg Inn located in Cumbria will be opening in April.

“It will offer guests access to Another Place’s facilities (pool, kids’ club, watersports, restaurants), with lake views and a relaxed ambience.

“Food will focus on Cumbrian produce, and there are plans for kitchen gardens, an events meadow and microbrewery.”
