A string of burglaries in North Yorkshire have seen numerous high-value items being stolen from properties, including jewellery, cash, and electronic items.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police are asking people to remain vigilant after they launched an appeal for information for three separate burglaries at properties in Thirsk.

The burglaries happened between January 12 and 19 when residential properties on Long Street and Green Lane West were broken into.

On Long Street, a property was broken into while the occupant was on holiday and they returned to find windows smashed and jewellery, cash and electronic goods stolen.

In another break-in on the same street, a house was broken into while it was empty.

On Green Lane West, suspects broke into a property on January 19 and stole aftershave and perfume.

Following the incidents, Detective Constable Dave Hunton, from North Yorkshire Police, said: “We urge residents to remain vigilant and review their home security if necessary. At this time of year, suspects will use the cover of darkness to commit offences. If you have security lights, make sure they are working properly and consider using light-timers or leaving lights on when you are not at home. Let your neighbours know if you are going to be away for any length of time.
