A top airline has hinted that it will be soon flying out of a North East airport after offering flights on its website and announcing recruitment for staff at the airport.

Eastern Airways, which is headquartered at Humberside Airport, seems set to also arrive at Teesside International Airport after flights appeared from the North East destination online.

On Friday (January 19), flights from Teesside to Jersey appeared from May 11, 2024 - sparking rumours that Teesside was about to announce yet another name at its airport.

According to the flights listed online, Eastern Airways will fly once a week on a Saturday to Jersey between May and September 2024.

While it's not the most exotic location for passengers to visit, the fact that Eastern Airways will arrive at Teesside Airport shows a step forward for Teesside.

Alongside the flight appearing online, Eastern Airways has also put out an advert looking for new staff at Teesside, further suggesting that the airline could be on its way to Teesside.

On its website and social media, Eastern Airways said: "Ever dreamed of working as cabin crew?

"Our applications for now open for new positions based in Teesside!

"Interested?

"Please apply via our website and our team will be in touch!"

The suggestions for a new airline at Teesside Airport come after Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen promised to build a new £20m railway station at Teesside Airport during an announcement at the start of 2024.

The Tory mayor wants an accessible station built using money allocated to the area from the scrapping of HS2.

The current station has long been neglected. Services have been suspended since May 2022, with no timescale for them resuming.

National Rail says the closure is due to “urgent repairs to the railway”.

Speaking at the time, on January 2, Lord Houchen said: “As a serious airport we need a working rail link that passengers can use to get to the airport, and with the current state of the train station this is simply not possible.

“We are ahead of schedule on our plan to turn things around, and the next phase of development following the opening of our business park and cargo facility, will see us build a new station at the airport.

“This investment is another step towards making our fantastic local airport sustainable for the long-term and is only possible following the £1billion we received from government following the cancellation of the Manchester leg of HS2.
