The home of Newcastle United star Joelinton was allegedly broken into by intruders last night as police begin an investigation into the incident.

Police attended the footballer's mansion on Runnymede Road in affluent neighbourhood Darras Hall, Ponteland shortly after 7:30pm last night.

The midfielder's security on his phone reported three male intruders in his home on Saturday as the Magpies lost 3-2 to Manchester City at Newcastle's St James' Park, leading him to swiftly alert police.

His family, including his three children, were not in the home at the time.

By the time officers arrived at the property, the intruders had fled the scene.

Police have now issued a full statement regarding the incident as investigations continue.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7.30pm yesterday (Saturday) police received a call from a concerned homeowner who reported that three men were inside their home on Runnymede Road in Darras Hall.

“Thankfully the homeowner was not home but had received a security alert on their phone and immediately reported concerns to police.
