A child has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after multiple emergency service vehicles attended an incident in Darlington this morning (Friday, January 12). 

Police and ambulance crews and the Great North Air Ambulance were called to Frosterley Drive, Darlington, at 9am.

Several patrol cars and ambulances converged on the scene, as an air ambulance landed nearby.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to an address near Haughton Road, Darlington, at around 9am this morning (January 12).

"Paramedics also attended, and a child was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where they remain in a critical condition.

"Officers are currently on scene at the address while initial inquiries are carried out."The Northern Echo:

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on Frosterley Drive in Darlington this morning (12 January) shortly after 9am.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, one clinical team leader, one rapid response paramedic and we were supported by our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken to hospital by ambulance."

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said:  “Our crew were activated at 9:10 to an incident in Darlington.

"Our doctor and critical care paramedic flew to the incident and they arrived on the scene at 9:21, they worked with the North East Ambulance Service to treat the patient.

"The crew accompanied the patient to the hospital by road.”
