A man has died following a serious three-car crash in Hartlepool last night (Friday, January 5). 

The A689 Stockton Road, towards Hartlepool from Newton Bewley, was sealed for most of the night following a crash a 9.05 pm yesterday. 

Emergency services swarmed the scene, and the road remained closed until just before 7 am this morning. 

The incident involved a pedestrian and three vehicles, a Vauxhall Astra, Kia Sportage and Ford Puma. Tragically, the pedestrian, a 38-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now, police have appealed to any witnesses to come forward and help with their investigations. 

A spokesperson for the force said: "A 38-year-old male pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time. 

"Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of the A689 at Newton Bewley around 9:05 pm on Friday, January 5, and may have witnessed the incident or may have dash cam footage which could assist the ongoing police investigation.
