Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard may become the newest face in Albert Square after sparking rumours that she could ditch The Cobbles for rival soap EastEnders.

The actress, who is well known for playing iconic Rovers landlady Liz McDonald, quit the soap after 20 years with her last appearance being in 2020.

However, the star has hinted that she could be persuaded to join EastEnders after expressing interest in the London-based programme.

Speaking with fans on X (formally known as Twitter), Beverley Callard said she "loved" the idea of joining the BBC show and said she would "kill" to have a script written by EastEnders scriptwriter Daran Little.

One fan asked Beverley Callard: "Isn't it about time EastEnders introduced a Long lost Mitchell or Slater or Carter sister/aunt?!"

Responding to the tweet, she said: "Love that idea X"

Moments before, the Coronation Street star said that she would "kill" to work alongside EastEnders scriptwriter Daran Little after collaborating with him over at ITV years prior.

Callard went on to add that she had recently "dreamt" that the creative was writing for her.

Another fan took to social media to say: "Well Kathy Beale's apparently got a sister we've never seen, sure @DaranLittle would create an incredible character," to which she responded: "What do you think Daran? That would be fab X."

She then went on to add that she was "loving" the thought of being in Albert Square, a departure from her time on the Manchester-based soap.

EastEnders airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer with Coronation Street being available to watch and stream on ITV1 and ITVX.
