Houses, roads and a nursery have been flooded in North Yorkshire after Storm Henk swept across the region and caused rivers to overflow and significant drainage issues.

On Tuesday (January 2) and Wednesday (January 3), the storm brought extensive rain and wind, which saw several becks, rivers and canals spill over in locations right across North Yorkshire.

The emergency services were busy helping to prevent flooding, closing off roads and providing help to people stuck in flood water - which saw cars become beached in floodwater, people's houses in rural areas flooded and power outages for certain addresses.

On Tuesday (January 2), firefighters attended a property on Buttercrambe Road, Buttercrambe after reports of a flooded children’s centre.

The officer closed the road off using barrier tape and assisted staff in evacuating cars from the car park of a nearby care home.

Advice was given to the care home and children’s centre staff.

In another incident on Tuesday, a fire crew from Thirsk responded to a report of floodwater entering a residential property via the floorboards on Newsham Road, Thirsk.
