Rescue teams are working through darkness in the River Tees as part of an urgent missing person search.
Emergency crews have been working along the river in Yarm throughout the afternoon.
A cordon was earlier erected along True Lovers Walk at the water’s edge while the police helicopter was spotted over the town.
Water rescue specialists and police with torches have been photographed and are continuing their search efforts this evening.

Cleveland Police said they are searching for a missing person. Officers are yet to confirm the person’s identity.
The dog unit is also in attendance on Silver Street in Yarm while enquiries continue.
The fire brigade left the scene at about 4pm and confirmed the incident was police-led.
