Three people were arrested at a housing estate on Christmas Day after an altercation resulted in damage to a home.

Police converged on Council Avenue in Shiney Row, Sunderland shortly before 3pm on Monday (December 25) following reports of an incident.

Officers reported that three men were involved in an "altercation" which resulted in window damage to one home on the street.

Three men between the ages of 43 and 53 were arrested but have since been bailed as enquiries continue.

A Force spokesperson said: “At around 2.45pm on December 25, police received a report of a disturbance outside an address on Council Avenue in Shiney Row, involving three men.

“It was reported the men had been involved in a physical altercation before causing damage to the windows of a property.

“Officers attended and an investigation was launched.

“Three men, aged between 43 and 53, were arrested and have since been released on bail.

“Enquiries into the report continue and at this stage police believe those involved are known to each other and there is no risk to the wider public.
