ORGANISERS of a North-East village Christmas Tree festival have been overwhelmed by the tree-mendous response to the inaugural event.

More than 30 Christmas Trees have been donated for the All Saints Church Christmas Tree Festival, in the County Durham village of Hurworth.

The trees were sponsored and decorated by different local groups and businesses in aid of local charities and church funds.

Andrew Duckworth, who helped organise the event, said: “My wife and I visited Beverley Minster’s Christmas Tre Festival a few years ago, and we suggested it to the Parish Church Council, and it’s wonderful to see it all come together so brilliantly.

“We’re delighted to have had more than 200 people visit, which isn’t bad for a small village church and a first-time event. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped organise the festival, to all the organisations that have supported it.

“We’d also like to especially thank Flowers by Nattrass and James Middlemass Machinery, for all their support in supplying trees and helping us to display them properly.”

Visitors to the festival voted for their favourite tree, with the winner announced as the tree created by pupils from nearby Hurworth Primary School, which won vouchers to spend on books for the children.
