Officers searching for missing County Durham man have confirmed a body has been found. 

A search was mounted for Willington man Braydon Wright after he was last seen on Friday October 20, on Willington High Street. 

Members of the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team had searched 20 kilometres of the River Wear the missing 22-year-old a fortnight ago.

But Durham Police confirmed have now confirmed a body had been found following a 'targeted search of land near Hunwick, just over two miles from Willington.  

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "We are sorry to report that officers searching for missing Willington man, Braydon Wright, have found a body.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of the 22-year-old have been informed.

"Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"The body was found this morning by members of the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team, carrying out a targeted search of land near Hunwick.

"We would like to offer our thanks to members of the mountain rescue team, who have volunteered their time to assist with the search for Braydon in difficult conditions over recent weeks.

"An investigation is now underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death and the coroner has been informed."
