A person was taken to hospital following a car crash on a County Durham dales road this afternoon (Wednesday, December 6).

Emergency services were alerted to a one-vehicle collision between Stanhope and Frosterley, in Weardale, at about 2.40pm. 

Police and the ambulance service attended. The driver was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, while the passenger as unhurt.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 2.40pm today to reports of a one-vehicle collision on the A689 between Stanhope and Frosterley.

"The passenger was uninjured however the driver has been taken to hospital."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 2.42pm this afternoon (Wednesday 6 December) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A689 in Bishop Auckland.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew and a rapid response paramedic to the scene. One patient was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment."
