Ten people have been arrested, crime scene investigators have been on the scene and a man is in hospital with injuries after he was shot in the head with an air rifle in the street. 

Police are continuing their investigation after an incident in the early hours of this morning (December 6) in Stockton. 

As police continue enquiries, we have looked at what we know so far into the incident: 

What has happened? 

A street altercation happened at around 1.55am, which saw an altercation involving an air rifle in the street. Two cordons were in place by police and crime scene investigators were at the incident. An 'item' was seen in the middle of one of the cordons, with blood seen on the street.

Where was the incident?

Bowesfield Lane/Northcote Street in Stockton.

What have the police said? 

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Ten arrests have been made in connection with a report of an altercation in Stockton overnight.

"Around 1.55am today, Wednesday 6th December, a report was received of an altercation involving males with weapons on Bowesfield Lane/Northcote Street.

"A 31-year-old man suffered an injury to his head believed to be caused by an air rifle, and he remains in hospital whilst receiving treatment. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

"Ten males were arrested in connection with the incident, and all remain in police custody at this time.

"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number 239343."

What has the ambulance service said? 

An NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 1.57am this morning (Wednesday 6 December) to reports of a person injured on Northcote Street in Stockton. We dispatched an ambulance crew and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended via road. One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment.”
