A scrap man who fly-tipped a fridge freezer from his van has been handed a hefty fine.
The waste metal collector dumped the bulky kitchen appliance from his van in the front street of Taylor Gardens, in the Pelaw area of Gateshead on October 29.
Doing so he avoided paying the environmental levy for legal and ethical disposal, but that decision has come back to bite him after being ordered to pay a £400 fine.
The man admitted the fly tip offence to council enforcement officers and accepted his actions where unacceptable and that he should have disposed of the item correctly.
