A Darlington primary school has been forced to close after a power cut.

Classrooms at High Coniscliffe Church of England Primary School were left without electricity after the outage on Tuesday (December 5) morning.

The school confirmed shortly after 9am that leaders had made the decision to close.

Posting on Facebook they said: “Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to close school today due to a power cut in the area.

“We will provide an update with further information in due course.

“Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The Northern Powergrid described the issue as a “major power cut” and confirmed an “unexpected problem with the cables or equipment” had caused the issue.

Fewer than ten properties in total were effected with power expected to be restored by around 2pm.
