FLOOD alerts are in place for rivers across the region as heavy rain continues to fall in some areas.

The North East has been subject to strong weather for the last week as flurries of snow fell over the north of England.

Now, as snow and ice melt, and rain continues to fall, many areas in County Durham, North Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear, and Northumberland, have been put under flood warnings by the Environment Agency.

More weather warnings for snow and ice come into force on Sunday evening.

River levels are forecast to rise in Darlington and Newton Aycliffe, with the River Skerne swelling due to rainfall.
