The ambulance service responded to a 'medical incident' at a Darlington retail park over the weekend after concerned members of the public called paramedics to the scene. 

Crews from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called to North Road Retail Park at around 12.10pm on Saturday (December 2), following reports of a 'medical episode' outside one of the shops.

Parts of the shopping park were sealed off by ambulance crews to allow paramedics to work at the scene, with the ambulance service now confirming that one person was taken to hospital.

It's understood that the incident happened near the Poundland store in the retail park, with shoppers seeing ambulances at the scene during the incident. 

The North East Ambulance Service has noted that the incident involved a person falling and hitting their head. 

A spokesperson for NEAS said: "We were called at 12.10pm on Saturday (December 2) for a patient who had fallen and hit her head at the North Road retail park in Darlington.

"A paramedic crew attended and took the patient to hospital."
