Police are undertaking patrols in a North East town following a ‘serious violent disorder’ incident which saw officers suffer injuries.
Reassurance patrols consisting of police and partners from Middlesbrough Council are continuing in Hemlington following a report of serious violent disorder last Sunday (November 26).
This comes after one officer suffered a serious hand injury requiring surgery and facial injuries.
Chief Inspector Nigel Burnell from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We understand that residents in Hemlington and the wider local community may be concerned following recent activity in the area, however, I want to reassure people that we have been proactively patrolling and ensuring that we have a highly visible presence.
“This will continue over the coming days and weeks as we continue with our enquiries and encourage anyone with concerns to approach our officers or speak to Cleveland Police by calling us on 101.”

Two men aged 36 and 25 have since appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court.
A 36-year-old man was charged with section 18 wounding with intent to resist/prevent arrest and affray on November 29, and a 25-year-old man charged with section 18 assault and affray on November 30.
Five others were also arrested in connection with the incident and remain on police bail.
