Ice, frost and wintry showers will cover the region over the weekend as the North East experiences temperatures well into the minuses.
The Met Office have predicted a very frosty morning on Saturday (December 2) with a risk of ice on untreated surfaces, with patchy freezing fog slow to clear.
This will be followed by dry spells which will remain mostly dry as those around the region continue to feel the cold.
There will be a maximum temperature of 2 °C today, with the North East expecting a minimum temperature of -3 °C tonight.
This evening will see clear skies and a widespread frost, with a chance of some snow arriving later tonight.
On Sunday (December 3), the forecaster has predicted the weather will remain generally dry, cloudy and very cold.
They expect there will be patchy snow first thing which will soon clear.

Meanwhile, Monday and Tuesday will potentially see further outbreaks of sleet or snow, with snow likely especially over high ground.
It also predicted the weather will become drier later on Tuesday, while Wednesday will see the weather remain mainly dry.
Temperatures are predicted to remain below average for this period.
