Among the favourite locations, MJ's Cake Cafe, Quarry Tea House and Whitegates Nursery were popular choices, with social media users raving about these establishment's mouth-watering range of cakes.

Top fan Irene Braithwaite said: "Whitegates Nursery and Cafe serve the very best cakes, the very best food hot and cold."

Another endorsement for outdoor settings, Anne Hedley recommended Rendevouz on Whitley Bay Promenade, a choice offering a beachfront view to accompany a cake break.

Elsewhere in the North East, Peggotys in Wolsingham was suggested by Trish Willis, while Ann Brown gave another ringing endorsement to Whitgate Nursery saying: "Whitegates Nursery Ltd the best place for cakes food it's so lovely."

In the Ashington area, Ali Marshall made a case for Kelly's Kakeaway: "They do the best cakes by far."
