A man who died in a crash on the A689 in Hartlepool over the weekend has been named. 

Conor Holland, 24, of Hartlepool, died when his Audi was involved in a collision with a VW Golf on Friday evening. 

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Conor died following the collision which involved two vehicles, a dark blue Audi S3 and a blue VW Golf, around 10:15pm on the A689 near to the Travellers Rest Pub.

"Conor leaves behind his mam, dad and sister who are devastated by his loss and ask for privacy at this extremely difficult time.

"His family are being supported by specially trained officers and our thoughts remain with them."

A 22-year-old man was arrested following the crash and has been bailed whilst inquiries continue.

Mr Holland had been travelling westbound in a dark blue Audi S3, when the vehicle collided with railings near The Traveller’s Rest pub.The Northern Echo: Conor Holland, who died after crash in Hartlepool

There was a large emergency presence at the scene, including two ambulances, as the road was closed in both directions between Brierton Lane and Rossmere Way.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to call 101, quoting SE23228265.
