A crossbow, zombie knife and curved knife have been seized after police officers smashed through the door of a North East property.

Specialist officers from Northumbria Police attended a property in the Meadow Well area of North Shields on Thursday (November 16) following intelligence of weapons and drugs at the property.

The seizure was part of Operation Sceptre; which looks to get weapons and serious violence stamped out of the region.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: " We're committed to disrupting the wider criminality behind the culture of using weapons and causing serious violence.

"This week as part of #OpSceptre we’ve carried out a range of activities – including a host of educational and preventative work.

"But we've also executed a string of warrants and targeted activity because it helps to build our intelligence picture, pursue key individuals linked to crime and disorder, and keeps our communities safe."

During the raid in North Shields, officers executed a warrant at an address in the Meadow Well linked to reports of ongoing disorder.

An axe, a zombie knife, a crossbow and other items were recovered.

The police spokesperson added: "There’s never an excuse for having dangerous and illegal weapons like this in your home.
