Police have launched an investigation into the 'unexplained death' of a woman found in a property in Gateshead today (Thursday, November 16)

Emergency services converged on a residential street in Gateshead in Gateshead shortly after 10am.

Police placed a cordon up on Cramer Street and Abbey Court with multiple police vehicles in attendance.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said : “At around 10.15pm on Wednesday, police were contacted by the ambulance service, who were responding to a report of an unresponsive female at an address on Abbey Court, Gateshead.

“Officers attended the scene and the woman, in her 40s, was pronounced as deceased.

"Her death is being treated as unexplained at this time and her family are being supported by specialist officers.

"Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 or using the 'Tell us Something' page on the Northumbria Police website quoting log NP-20231115-1257."
