Plans have been submitted to Durham County Council by a care home group to build a 62-bed facility on dormant land that formerly housed a social club.
Land that was once home to Newton Aycliffe's Southerne Club could now be developed into a care facility by the Chester-le-Street based Gainsford Group should plans be approved by councillors.
This comes 11 years after the club was demolished in 2012 after it stood derelict on Hawkshead Place.

Should the home be built, this will be the Gainsford Group's second home in the town as they already run Lindisfarne Care Home located on Silverdale Place.
Images and documents of the plans are available to view on Durham County Council's planning portal website, revealing that neighbouring homes were made aware of the plans on Tuesday, November 14.

The rooms, set over two floors, are all en-suite and would overlook Burnhill Way or other homes on Hawskhead Place.
Shrubbery and plans for landscaping have also been detailed on drawings, as well as trees, a grass lawn and a paved terrace.
