House price difference down streets in County Durham isn't unusual - but one road in the region has a difference in house prices of £1.45m.

Dilks Street in Bishop Auckland might be something of a contrast for people to look at - but it's all because of one particular property down the road.

As one of the main streets for people entering the town from Darlington, it might strike you as a normal and industrial-style road with car garages and a hotel on one side and properties on the other, but it has more than meets the eye.

The street also has one of the most major contrasts of all; being a location where a property is currently on the market for £1.5m next to another that's sold at £38,000.

That's because Bishop Auckland property Tindale Towers is currently up for sale.

The white mansion-style house that boasts a games room, pool, gym, five bedrooms and plenty of advanced tech features, has been up on the sale market for some time - with the owners reducing the price several times.

Having starred on Channel 4's 'I Own Britain's Best Home' and won several awards, the house has failed to sell for some time, having been available at one point for £2.3m.

Now available for £1.5m, the Art Deco mansion has seen its price tag reduced with the owners even attempting to raffle it off.

Owners Mike and Jules Keen built the luxury home in 2007 after buying an adjoining plot of land next to their bungalow.

The couple, who own their own furniture business, tried to sell the home in 2016 for £3.65m but took it off the market after it failed to sell.

The lowered and reduced price tag however is still nearly 10 times more than the neighbouring terraces combined – and 18 times the £128,000 average value of local homes.

In contrast, one house that has sold over the last two years while Tindale Towers has been for sale is a two-up-two-down end-of-terrace on Dilks Street, Bishop Auckland, which sold in April 2021 for £30k, according to Zoopla.
