Police have issued an update on a crash that closed one lane of the southbound carriageway on the A19 on Wednesday (November 8) evening and led to congestion on the A690.

Officers from Durham Police were called to a crash at around 5.40pm near Seaton, following reports of a road traffic collision.

After arriving on the scene, one lane of the southbound carriageway was closed to allow police to work on the vehicles involved and attempt to clear the road.

Durham Police initially put out a statement on Wednesday (November 9) - advising motorists that there was a collision and there might be added traffic on the A19 and A690 as a result.

The initial statement read: "Officers are just arriving on scene at an RTC on the A19 southbound in the vicinity of Seaton and the junction with the A1018.

"Southbound traffic is currently limited to one lane only, therefore congestion is starting to build, leading back towards the junction with the A690 at Doxford Park.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and those committed to the A19 may experience a delay as a result."

On Thursday (November 9), the police force issued an update - saying that the crash involved three vehicles and confirmed that no one had been injured in the collision.
