One person has been taken to hospital following a crash on a County Durham road this afternoon (Monday, November 6).

Emergency services were called out following reports of a road traffic collision on the junction of trhe B1278 and A177, near Sedgefield, at about 4.15pm.

Durham Police closed off the road as an crew from the North East Ambulance Service attended along with a clinical team leader. The Great North Air Ambulance was also called out.   

The patient was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by road. 

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the junction of the B1278 and the A177 in Sedgefield at 4.16pm this afternoon (6 November).

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

One patient was transported to James Cook Hospital by road."

The road has been closed for a number of hours, while accident investigators inspect the scene. 

Durham Police have been contacted for more information.
