A series of night-time closures to the A66 will take place this month, with motorists warned that diversions will be in place and disruption could be possible.

The A66 above the Newport roundabout in Middlesbrough will be closed for repair and bridge testing in both directions.

The westbound carriageway, travelling towards Stockton between the Hartington interchange and the Newport roundabout, will shut from 8pm to 6am for five nights from Monday, November 6.

Once that work is complete, the eastbound carriageway will be closed in the opposite direction – heading towards Redcar.

That work is likely to take five nights from 8pm until 6am, and will begin from Monday, November 13.

The same section will be fully closed for one night, this time in both directions - again from 8pm to 6am - on November 25.

A further small section of the A66 carriageway, near to the Stockton Council boundary, also needs to be repaired and will be closed westbound on Wednesday, November 8 from 8pm to 6am.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “These essential works are necessary to keep Middlesbrough moving.

“We understand the works may cause disruption to residents, so are carrying them out overnight in an attempt to ensure any impact on the travelling public will be kept to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
