A motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries after a crash on a busy County Durham road this afternoon (Wednesday, November 1).

Emergency services were alerted after reports of a collision involving a motorcycle on the A689 at its junction with the A177, near Sedgefield. at about 4pm yesterday.

A number of police vehicles as well as two ambulances were at the scene, where the casualty was treated at the roundabout, before being taken to hospital. 

The incident caused severe delays to rush hour traffic on the surrounding roads. 

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 4pm today to a collision on the A689 near Sedgefield, involving a motorcyclist.

"The rider of the bike sustained injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment."

A North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Sands Hall Roundabout in Sedgefield at 3.38pm this afternoon (1 November).

"We dispatched an ambulance crew and transported one patient to North Tees Hospital."
