One of County Durham's oldest domestic buildings dating back to the 11th century has come to market with a guide price of £385,000.
The Ancient Manor House in Barnard Castle is steeped in history and now could be yours after coming up for sale with GSC Grays.
The three-bedroom house on The Bank in Barnard Castle, was formerly the residence of the Stewards of the Manor from the time of Henry VII until the reign of James I and the property retains a wealth of examples of its long history.
It was remodelled in the early 1600s and by the 18th century, the extended house had become The Punch Bowl, one of the principal coaching inns of Barnard Castle.

The property has a striking oak-beamed sitting room with the reception room featuring an ancient oak mantel, free-standing log burner, flagged stone flooring and exposed sandstone walls.
The first-floor sitting room has bay windows with seating, a heavily beamed ceiling, wide wooden floorboards, exposed sandstone and a historic stone fireplace.
During the reign of Mary Tudor, the steward of Barnard Castle was Sir James Shuttleworth and the inscription A.S M.S Ano. Dmi. 1621 carved into the first floor Tudor fireplace is believed to celebrate a marriage in the Shuttleworth family.

The first floor also comprises a third bedroom, currently used as an office, and a separate utility room.
A wooden staircase leads to a spacious main bedroom with vaulted ceilings and wooden floorboards.

The well-equipped kitchen/dining room leads to the private walled south-facing courtyard garden with climbing roses and honeysuckle with the rear part of the house having been re-roofed.
The property has been rewired and all radiators replaced with the exterior windows and doors have been replaced with new hardwood to the original pattern, most Heritage double glazed.
