Boots will close one of its Darlington stores this week as part of plans to shut 300 of its shops.

The cosmetics retailer said earlier this year it would close shops close to other sites, reducing its number of locations from 2,200 to 1,900.

The store and pharmacy on High Row in Darlington has been confirmed as one of the sites set to close, with the shutters set to come down on Saturday (November 4).

Signs in the shop frontage confirm it will cease trading on Saturday, November 4.

Boots previously said there would be no redundancies despite plans, and staff would be redeployed elsewhere in the business.

The announcement came after the retailer said retail sales jumped 13.4 per cent in the three months to the end of May, compared to the same period last year.

Boots has been contacted for comment.

A spokesperson previously said: “Evolving the store estate in this way allows Boots to concentrate its team members where they are needed and focus investment more acutely in individual stores with the ambition of consistently delivering an excellent and reliable service in a fresh and up-to-date environment.”
