There has been a wave of activity in the North East hospitality sector, with FOUR key deals across the region.

Knight Frank has acquired luxury boutique hotel, Jesmond Dene House in Newcastle, on behalf of Kronen Hotels Ltd, for an undisclosed sum. The 40-bed hotel, which is a Grade-II listed Arts and Crafts mansion that was once home to Sir Andrew Noble, a partner in Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong’s engineering works, has been sold by its previous owners, due to their imminent planned retirement.

The transaction was an off-market deal.

The new owner is keen to invest in the property and build-on its excellent reputation as a high-quality hotel, eatery and events venue.

A spokesperson for Kronen Hotels said: “We are proud to become the custodians of Jesmond Dene House. We are acutely aware of the responsibility we have.”

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has successfully completed the sale of the Bird in Bush Inn, located in the historic village of Elsdon, Northumberland.

Beautifully situated in the Northumberland National Park, the Bird in Bush Inn has been providing a warm welcome to visitors for centuries, particularly the area’s many hikers and cyclists,.

The 18th century property is one of four pubs in the village and recently underwent an extensive refurbishment throughout. The pub is currently owned and run by Jackie Jones who is now selling to retire.

Christie & Co has also been instructed to market The Three Horseshoes, a popular family-friendly village pub located on Hatherley Lane, in the village of Horton near Blyth, Northumberland.

Richard and Patricia Cavner, have owned the pub for nearly 30 years, having operated it themselves for a long time before granting a lease to the current tenant, who has enjoyed several very busy years there, but has decided to move on.

The pub is for sale freehold with an asking price of £595,000.

Christie & Co is also marketing The Copper Horse, an award-winning restaurant, located in the thriving and developing town of Seamer, Scarborough. Owners are seeking to lease the premises to an Indian or Pan-Asian restaurant operator.

The Copper Horse is an established and popular village restaurant renowned for English comfort food and special occasions. Originally a collection of farm buildings dating back 300 years, it was first ‘The White Horse’ pub, then became ‘The Copper Horse’ restaurant in the early 197os when it was purchased by the Price Stephens family. The present owner, entertainment entrepreneur Nick Thomas MBE, bought the business in 2005.

The Copper Horse is available to let for a term of 10 years (possibly more by negotiation), on a free of tie basis. The property will be let on a full repairing and insuring basis.
