Lib Dems in Middlesbrough have announced a councillor as their candidate for a new seat at the next election.

Guisborough councillor Jemma Joy has been chosen to stand in the new Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland seat.

She stood in the area at the 2019 General Election and has since served on Redcar and Cleveland Council, and Guisborough Town Council.

Following her selection, Jemma Joy, she said: “It’s a great honour to have this opportunity to stand to represent the people of Guisborough, Loftus, Skelton, Middlesbrough and the villages.

“Ours is a beautiful, diverse area and I love living here. But we do not always get our fair share of council and Government funding.

“If elected I will work to ensure that our area gets a fair deal from whatever Government is in power after the election.”

Jemma lives in Guisborough with her husband and two daughters, and works as an account manager at a pharmaceuticals firm.
