Eight North East restaurants have been named winners at this year's Food Awards England after becoming some of the best overall and regionally. 

The awards ceremony, held on Monday (October 9 at The Birmingham Conference & Events Centre, recognised and rewarded the talent and hard work of the English food industry, highlighting the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, cafes, and producers.

The winners were selected based on the votes of the public, who nominated their favourite establishments across various categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Gastro Pub of the Year, Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year and Best Street Food amongst others.

Within the list, restaurants in Durham, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Darlington triumphed, while  Station Five Deli in Eaglescliffe also scooped an award. 

Elsewhere, Sol Tapas Restaurant in Darlington and Barrio Comida also managed to pick up awards on the night.

The Awards aimed to recognise excellence across various categories, showcase the best food establishment that England has to offer and promote the country’s industry, celebrating its diversity and quality.

The winners should be proud of their achievement, as they represent the very best of England’s food scene, and are a true reflection of the quality and diversity of the industry.

  • Café/ Bistro of the Year North East: Station Five Deli (Eaglescliffe)
  • Restaurant of the Year North East: Sorella Sorella (Newcastle upon Tyne)
  • Best Italian Establishment North: Uno Momento (Darlington)
  • Best World Cuisine North: Persian Cottage (Middlesbourgh)
  • Best World Cuisine Overall Winner: Persian Cottage (Middlesbourgh)
  • Best Mexican Establishment North: Barrio Comida (Durham)
  • Gastro Pub of the Year North: The Three Horseshoes (Blyth)
