A woman has been taken to hospital after a crash on a County Durham road that closed off the route for over two hours.

Emergency services were called to the A688 in Spennymoor at around 8am, following reports of a two-vehicle collision on the stretch of road. 

For two hours, the road was sealed off between the Frog and Ferret roundabout and Green Lane Industrial Roundabout.

Durham Police have since confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Northern Echo has contacted the North East Ambulance Service for a comment.
