A man's body has been recovered after emergency services were called to Roseberry Topping beauty spot.

Teams from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team attended the incident in Newton Woods.

They were alerted at midday on Wednesday, September 27, that a man had collapsed in the area.

The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team recovered the body on behalf of the NEAS.

A spokesperson for the team said: "Shortly after midday we were requested to support the North East Ambulance Service who were attending to a man who had collapsed in Newton Woods below Roseberry Topping.

"A Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter and a Yorkshire Ambulance Service crew also attended.

"Very sadly we were later asked to recover the man’s body from the woods on behalf of the ambulance service.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at such a very sad time."

An NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.24 yesterday (Wednesday 27 September) to a person unwell at Roseberry Topping.

"We dispatched two double crewed ambulances and two clinical team leaders to the scene and requested support from Cleveland Mountain Rescue."
