A thug who used a ‘Rambo’ knife to threaten his victim to steal his £3,000 e-bike has been jailed after leaving the youth fearing for his life.

Calum Hood pulled the blade from a sheath and pointed it towards the face of the boy after he had been lured to an isolated area before the robbery.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the 22-year-old chased after the victim and slashed at him with a knife to cut the strap of a bag he was carrying after he had handed over his bike.

Emma Atkinson, prosecuting, said: “The defendant pulled out the knife and he pointed it to his face and threatened to stab him if he didn’t get off the bike.

“He was frightened that he would get stabbed as the knife was only a foot away. He handed over the bike and then ran away.

“He was chased down the lane, the defendant swung the knife at his back and it cut through the strap of his bag.”

The court heard how the following day, the victim contacted the person who helped lure him to area of Pheasants Field Lane, Skelton, east Cleveland, to try and get his bike back.

Miss Atkinson added: “The defendant then sent a message to the complainant, he was threatening to come to his house and was threatening to cut his fingers off in front of his mother, if anything happened to the other male.

“The complainant feared for his life.”

The court heard how the bike had sentimental value as it had been bought by his mother out money received from a small inheritance.

Judge Paul Watson KC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, jailed Hood for a total of four years and six months for both offences.

“This was a set up organised by you in order to rob this young boy of his bike he had just been given,” he said.

“You had a knife in his face, he was understandably fearful for his life.”

Hood was also made subject to a three-year restraining order to protect his victim.
